What are Google Play store listing experiments?

Definition

Store listing experiments are Google Play’s built-in A/B tests for an app’s store listing. You can test icons, screenshots, videos and descriptions against the current listing.

How they work

In the Google Play Console (Grow → Store presence → Store listing experiments) you create an experiment with up to three variants. Unlike Apple's product page optimization, Google Play lets you test text as well — short and full description — not only graphics.

Experiments can be run on your default listing (graphics in all languages) or per language (graphics and text). The Console reports installs and retained installers per variant and tells you when a result is significant.

Tips

Example

A podcast app tests a short description that mentions "offline listening" against its current one. The new variant wins and becomes the default; the phrase later appears in users' reviews too.
